Leave the capital city, Nairobi, for the rolling plains of the Mara. You can fly from the capital city, through Wilson Airport. Safarilink, one of the leading domestic airlines, has daily flights to Maasai Mara. There are six airstrips in the Mara, each serving a range of camps and lodges around it. A flight from Nairobi to Mara takes about 45 minutes.
When you get to the Mara, check in at a luxury camp or Masai Mara lodge. Camping in Masai Mara is worth every penny because there are plush Masai Mara lodges and camps with modern facilities and amenities. They include Ol Moran Tented Camp, Mara Sopa Lodge, Enchoro Wildlife Camp, Mara West Camp, Mara Leisure Camp and Keekorok Lodge.
Have lunch and relax for a while in the lodge/camp. Later, leave for the savannah plains for an afternoon game drive. This guided tour will take you to the habitat of the main species of the Mara.

Get a wake-up call and a cup of warm tea/coffee. Wrap yourself warmly and leave for a hot air balloon safari. This takes place before dawn, which is the best time for an aerial view of the park. After the 10 o’clock tea break, explore the plains again, this time from a seat in a safari van. Scour the national reserve for elusive species you may have missed the previous day. You may also ask for packed lunch from the camp/lodge so you can explore the plains until the late hours of the afternoon.
However, if you go back to the camp/lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, opt for a cultural visit, bird watching or bush walk safari.
In the evening, take the adventure a notch higher. Enjoy a bush dinner and end the day with a sundowner drink as you watch the sun setting in the plains.
After breakfast, explore the plains for the last time. Watch mammals and birds as they come out of their habitats. Later, board an airport transfer vehicle that will take you to the airstrip for a flight out of Maasai Mara National Reserve.
