3 Days Tanzania Safaris Nyerere National Park, Now the Largest National Park in Africa, Nyerere National Park is a newly established Park which is part of what is known as the Selous Game Reserve. The name of the Park is given in honor of the founder of the Nation, the late Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere. The Park has been established in the year 2019 and covers an area of over 30,000 square kilometers. With its largest wilderness area in Africa, Nyerere National park has relatively undisturbed ecological and biological processes, including diverse range of wildlife with significant predator and prey relationship. The mighty Rufiji with its renown population of hippo and Rhino flows to the Indian ocean. The river has been designated as a photographic zone and is a popular tourist destination. The sheer volume of the game in the Nyerere is just outstanding! Elephant, buffalo, and lion are found in greater numbers, and the park, together with the remaining part of Selous has the last true stronghold for African wild dog Visitors to this vast park will be able to enjoy the widest diversity of safari activities in the country, like boating safaris as well as standard game drives, walking safaris and legendary fly camping trips.

Day by day

Day 1: Depart to Selous Game Reserve and an evening boat safari

You will be picked up at the hotel or airport in Dar es Salaam, then driven to Selous Game Reserve, which takes approximately five to six hours with lunch on the way. Upon arrival, check-in at Selous Mapumziko Lodge. In the evening, go for an evening boat safari through the Rufiji River. This safari allows you to experience aquatic life, mostly crocodiles and hippos. You can see some animals come for drinking and you can also see an uncountable number of bird species since the reserve has over 440 species of birds, while enjoying an amazing reserve’s sunset. Back in the late evening for dinner and stay the night at Selous Mapumziko Lodge. Lunch and dinner are included.

Day 2: Full day game drive at Selous Game Reserve

You will have an early breakfast at 7:00 a.m. and then drive to the Selous Game Reserve. You will have a full-day game drive in a specially modified safari vehicle with a professional guide, in which you should see and learn much about a large number of animals, including all the great favorites, lion, elephant, giraffe, buffalo, zebra, and all the other significant species including the rare African hunting dog. There will also be a great variety of bird species with wonderful scenery and varied topography: wetlands, dry grassland, light acacia forest, and higher ground with long views of far-off mountains. Enjoy your packed lunch and time to rest. Your guide will select a location with shade and water nearby to watch the animals coming to drink, a place with a clear view all round, so that no predator can creep up unseen. You will be back at Selous Mapumziko Lodge by 6:30 p.m. for sunset and dinner. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included.

Day 3: Early morning walking safari and depart to Dar es Salaam

You will have an early morning walking safari with a bushman across the reserve’s environment to learn various histories, including traditional trees for medicines, various animal footprints, and other small animals that you cannot see during the game drive. You will go back to the camp for breakfast afterward. After breakfast, drive back to Dar es Salaam with lunch on the way. You will arrive in the early evening, and Enjore Safaris will take you back to the hotel or catch your flight back home. Breakfast and lunch are included.
