Itinerary

Day 1: Overnight in Arusha

You will be met at the airport and driven to Olasiti Lodge in Arusha. Set away from the city hustle of Arusha, this well appointed and comfortable lodge is a welcome retreat. Its stunning gardens are packed with local vegetation, creating a relaxing atmosphere. The decor has strong local influences, reminding you that you’ve touched down in Africa. It’s a prime spot to lay your head for the night, before or after a long flight. If you love a good Sunday lie-in, it’s worth noting that there is a nearby African church that conducts vibrant early morning church services. Guests are of course welcome to attend and get a real-life glimpse of local religious customs.

Day 2-3: Explore Tarangire with walking safaris

You will be driven by your guide into the heart of the Tarangire National Park. Here you will be staying at Swala Camp, set in the far southwest corner of Tarangire National Park, under a canopy of umbrella-shaped acacia trees strewn along the edge of the Gursi Swamp. And what a camp it is. The 12 beautifully furnished tents are really rather glamorous and the setting is idyllically peaceful, but it’s the nearby waterhole that really bowls you over. Here, families of plodding elephants stop to drink whilst lions keep a lazy eye on the clusters of skittering antelope. And with all the action so close-by, we wouldn’t blame you for perhaps missing a game drive or two…For wildlife encounters of the up-close-and-personal kind, head out on a walking safari in Tarangire and track big game on foot with one of the experienced and highly knowledgeable guides.

Day 4-5: Game drive in the famous Ngorongoro Crater

Set in beautifully maintained gardens, Plantation Lodge offers a great mix of lush surroundings, lodge comfort, excellent food, spa pampering, aesthetically pleasing African style and access to Tanzania's most scenic national parks. Venture into the park with your personal guide and try to spot the elusive black rhino in one of the most game-rich areas on the continent. At Plantation Lodge the in-house experience takes centre stage, with external activities taking an unexpected supporting role. There are guided walks through an aromatic coffee plantation and visits to the neighbouring community for a taste of culture. Explore the garden's exotic birdlife. The impressive wine cellar provides the opportunity for a little wine tasting.

Day 6-8: Witness the Great Migration in the Serengeti

Your guide will drive you into the heart of the Serengeti for the finale of your trip staying at Lemala Ewanjan Tented Camp. Spend your days on guided game drives tracking big cats and witnessing the Great Migration. The sheer size of the Serengeti can make you feel quite small, but Lemala Ewanjan's great facilities and exceptional location in the Seronera Valley will make you long to return. Unlike other parts of the Serengeti, this secluded area in the central plains has abundant water, so there's always plenty of game, enabling the camp to stay in one place, unlike its mobile counterparts. Look out for the resident cats, whose roars are sure to penetrate your dreams. Visit between April and June or November and January to see the Great Migration passing through, followed by the ever-watchful predators.
